Pultec Emulationen - Harmonic Distorition

Pultec EQs are often used in mixes and mastering. I wanted to compare the different VST plug-ins on Harmonic Distorition and EQ Curves at 5kHz. In terms of sound characteristics, Tube Tech NobleQ and EQP1 are particularly noticeable. The EQP1 is very similar to the original, which can also be seen from the very non-linear EQ curve. UAD Pultec Legacy disappoints in the sound and the slight increase between 20Hz and 1kHz makes the entire signal appear louder. The 2dB reduction in the TubeTech is also undesirable, but it can be compensated more easily thanks to the output controller. The NobleQ has the most extensive settings, but it can also quickly be used incorrectly if you have not read the manual.

All of them are ideal for mixing, but I would handle mastering very carefully and if so, only use them very subtly. For me personally, however, all of them are useless for pre-mastering, as I have better alternatives available here. However, if you want this type of coloring and EQ curves when mastering, you should also achieve useful results with the plug-ins.
